Leafcutters building a system
Leafcutters building a system

‘System’ - a collection of elements connected to form a whole.

Systems Thinking holds the ideas of emergence and hierarchy, communication and control.

Systems practice uses these ideas to design and manage complex processes and constructions for the benefit of individuals, organisations and society.

Systems Theory and Practice in the Knowledge Age

The 7th international conference of the UK Systems Society was held at the University of York, July 7th - 10th, 2002

This Conference built on the success of previous conferences tackling pertinent issues for academics and practitioners. Participants reflected critically on the contribution of systems theory and practice to the commonly termed 'knowledge age'. Case studies and practical examples, in particular, were encouraged.

Dr Peter Hughes OBE, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering was a witty and sincere after dinner speaker at the conference dinner in exchange for a donation to Children's Hospices in Scotland.
